When someone finds out I have a business that helps people write and preserve their life stories, the next question is often:
“Is it like Storyworth?”
The answer is yes and no.
The goal of Log Your Legacy is very aligned with Storyworth, but my approach and end products are quite different.
In this article, I share three important differences to help you understand which you may prefer.
How is Log Your Legacy like Storyworth?
But first: What makes us similar? I don’t personally know the folks at Storyworth, but I am familiar with their brand and feel confident that we both believe:
- Every person has a meaningful story to tell.
- Sharing stories connects people — especially loved ones — across generations.
- Books filled with memories and life stories make beautiful, lasting gifts.
How do Log Your Legacy and Storyworth differ?
Despite these similarities, there are three many ways our services differ.
Difference 1: The end product
Let’s work backwards. What do you actually end up with?
Storyworth: Standardized keepsake book
One way Storyworth has been able to scale its service is by streamlining its product.
- Storyworth books come in one size (6 x 9 inches) with a hard cover, up to 480 pages, and templated cover design options.
- Text formatting (bold, italics, etc.) is not supported, but you can include photos with captions.
- The interior is black and white unless you upgrade to include color in pictures.
Log Your Legacy: Custom keepsake book and/or videos
Log Your Legacy offers more flexibility and creative liberty.
- Do you want to print your stories in a traditional hard cover reading book?
- Or a beautiful coffee table book with layflat pages and vivid visuals that extend to the edges?
- What about bringing your memories to life in video form?
Alternatively, you may simply prefer guidance to do it yourself with your own supplies — which is also an option.
Difference 2: The process
When it comes to something so personal, it’s important to think about the experience itself. Let’s look at the differences of how life stories come together with each service.
Storyworth: Weekly prompts via email and DIY online portal
Storyworth is a year-long subscription that includes a weekly life story prompt sent to you via email.
- The idea is for you to write and reply to the email with one story each week, though you can change the email frequency if you’d like to move faster or slower.
- Your stories are stored in an online portal that you can view, edit, reorder, and add pictures throughout the year.
- Storyworth says they typically allow writers a few extra months past the 12-month deadline to finalize and print your book.
Log Your Legacy: Step-by-step blueprint and 1:1 support
My approach is built around the Log Your Legacy Blueprint, a three-phase system consisting of Intention, Reflection, and Curation.
- You’ll receive a step-by-step workbook to guide you through the process.
- I also offer one-on-one support calls along the way. In essence, I’m here to serve as your guide, creative coach, listening ear, and accountability partner.
- My guided experience package is a six-week program, but the total timeline will vary based on your specific project. It typically takes several months to perfect and print a book, videos can often come together much faster, and — if you’re really ambitious — a DIY option can come together in mere days!
Difference 3: The investment
- An annual Storyworth subscription is just $99, which includes the cost of your book.
- Log Your Legacy pricing varies based on the product and level of support. Options range from $27 for the Create a Legacy workbook to $497+ for a guided experience with custom book or video.

Which is right for you?
I love that Storyworth exists. Its approachable price point and streamlined system has helped more people than ever write and publish keepsake books for their loved ones.
Yet it’s not the only option for preserving memories, life stories, and family history. Some people appreciate more accountability and one-on-one support. Some want a coffee table style book — or no book at all! That’s where Log Your Legacy options come in.
Others would rather be interviewed than write stories themselves. (I can also help with this, though I no longer promote it. My friends at No Story Lost are also a great option.)
The bottom line? There’s no right or wrong — just what’s right for you. Please feel free to get in touch if you have questions or want to talk through your options.
